Ukraine's intelligence reveals names of 11 Russian captains and 31 tankers in shadow fleet

Defence Intelligence of Ukraine has published data on 11 Russian captains and 31 vessels involved in schemes to circumvent sanctions on Russian oil exports.
Source: Defence Intelligence of Ukraine (DIU)
Details: DIU indicates that the listed individuals include captains of tankers linked to Sovcomflot, a sanctioned Russian company. They have violated international restrictions on Russian oil exports, including the price cap. Among them are Ivan Nikifirov, captain of the tanker KOTLAS and Konstantin Kovalenko, captain of the vessel CORUS.
The intelligence agency noted that it is the captains who make the decisions to disable or tamper with navigation systems, falsify logbooks and carry out offshore oil transfers – actions that allow Russia to continue trading in defiance of sanctions.
These actions not only help fund Russia’s war against Ukraine but also pose the risk of a large-scale environmental disaster.
The War&Sanctions platform now features information on 782 vessels and 100 captains in the Marine Vessels section.
