Anti-corruption officer suspected of collaborating with Russia's FSB is detained without bail

Viktor Husarov, an officer from a top secret unit of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU), has been placed under detention by the Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Kyiv on suspicion of spying for the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB).

Details: Hromadske reported that Husarov has been placed in pre-trial detention for 60 days without bail.

The Office of the Prosecutor General has confirmed the selection of the appropriate pre-trial restriction.

Background: 

  • On 21 July, the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) and the Prosecutor General’s Office announced that infiltration by Russian intelligence had been uncovered within NABU. An employee of NABU’s central office who worked in D-2, its most elite and top secret unit, was reported to have been detained in Kyiv.
  • The SSU said they had documented at least 60 instances of the suspect passing on classified information to a former deputy head of former president Viktor Yanukovych’s security service.
  • Ukrainska Pravda sources have confirmed that the individual in question is Viktor Husarov.
