Quote: "That was a combined attack of 35 missiles, particularly a significant number of ballistic missiles, and 60 drones. Some were shot down, but not all, unfortunately.

The Russians have again attacked our gas production facilities in Kharkiv and Poltava Oblasts.

The attack has damaged a significant part of the facilities. Some of the destruction is critical."

Details: Experts from Naftogaz, together with Ukraine's State Emergency Service and other services, are working on-site to deal with the aftermath.

Koretskyi described the attack as "the largest coordinated strike on our gas infrastructure since the start of the full-scale war". He added that this was a deliberate terror targeting civilian facilities responsible for extracting and processing gas essential for daily life.

Quote: "There is no military purpose behind this. This is another act of Russian malice aimed solely at disrupting the heating season and depriving Ukrainians of the ability to heat their homes in winter.

We are working with Ukraine's partners to deal with the aftermath of this strike and its wider impact quickly and effectively. Terror must never achieve its goals."

Background:

  • On the night of 2-3 October, a Russian strike halted operations at several gas facilities in Poltava Oblast.
  • On the same night, Russia launched a large-scale strike on Ukraine's energy infrastructure.
  • Sumyoblenergo, a distribution system operator in Sumy Oblast, reported that attacks on critical infrastructure left parts of Konotop and Shostka districts in Sumy Oblast.
