Details: On 19 August 2023, a Russian missile strike on the port of Chornomorsk caused severe damage to the terminal, destroying storage facilities, intake infrastructure, loading equipment and grain reserves. The attack reduced storage capacity by 136,000 tonnes and annual handling capacity by 2 million tonnes.

US$11 million has been spent on rebuilding the terminal in the financial year 2025, and total investment in the project is estimated to reach US$19 million.

Over the same period, the group has also successfully repaired two grain elevators damaged by missile strikes in 2023-2024, returning them to their original storage capacity.

Background:

  • It was announced earlier that a grain transhipment terminal with an annual handling capacity of 5 million tonnes is scheduled to open in the port of Pivdennyi in 2026.
  • It was also reported that Epicentr K, a Ukrainian home improvement hypermarket chain, would launch agricultural commodity trading in July 2025, using elevators not only for storage but also for transhipment of third-party grain and grain procurement.
  • Ukraine's Asset Recovery and Management Agency (ARMA) took control of property belonging to the AgroTerminal Logistic company following an investigation into unlawful actions by several companies, including PrivatBank, involving former owners such as Ukrainian oligarch Ihor Kolomoiskyi and Hennadii Boholiubov, an associate of Kolomoiskyi. [The PrivatBank case concerned allegations of financial misconduct and mismanagement at Ukraine's largest commercial bank which led to its nationalisation in 2016 due to significant financial losses – ed.]
  • Lavanda Spectrum, an Austrian company, has acquired control of the Olimpex Coupe International grain terminal in the Port of Odesa and renamed it Lavanda Terminal.
  • Two American investment funds, Argentem Creek Partners and Innovatus Capital Partners, had gained control of the Olimpex grain terminal following a prolonged legal dispute with the previous owners, who are suspected of fraud.
