Details: Hrynchuk said Ukraine has both the technology and its own specialised personnel to carry out the construction, and nuclear reactors can be purchased from countries other than Bulgaria.
Background:
- Earlier, Hrynchuk reported that Ukraine would continue negotiations with Bulgaria for the purchase of two VVER-1000 reactors for the Khmelnytskyi NPP.
- The government plans to begin the project to complete units No. 3 and No. 4 at the plant next year.
- According to the government's programme, the updated feasibility study for the project is to be completed by 31 October 2025, and by the end of 2025, a draft law on the siting, design and construction of the units should be submitted to the parliament.
- It was previously reported that completing and building new units at the Khmelnytskyi NPP will require an additional 9,000 employees and the recruitment of new staff.
- Energoatom, Ukraine's state-run nuclear power regulator, plans to complete units No. 3 and No. 4 with Soviet-designed VVER-1000 reactors, and later build units No. 5 and No. 6 with American-made Westinghouse reactors.
- The project is expected to be financed through credit funds and Energoatom's own resources.
