Accident occurs at Lenine oil depot in temporarily occupied Crimea

The Russian occupation authorities have reported that an accident has occurred at an oil depot in the Lenine district in Crimea due to a loss of pressure in the equipment.

Details: Krym.Realii reported that a loss of pressure in a piece of technological equipment – an oil pump used to maintain the optimal temperature in the bitumen heating process – caused an emergency oil spill both within the facility and beyond its perimeter.

"An emergency oil spill has occurred on the premises of the facility and partially beyond, across railway tracks and a crossing. Contamination of the road surface and pavements has been recorded. All the appropriate services are currently at the scene. Traffic in the area is restricted. The accident has been resolved and the consequences of the spill are being dealt with. The spill sites have been covered with sand and sorbent treatment is being applied twice," the Russian-controlled administration said.

The sham authorities did not provide any information about the cause of the accident, only stating that the Russian-controlled prosecutor's office of Lenine district will conduct an investigation.

Background:

  • Drones operated by the Security Service of Ukraine's Special Operations Centre Alpha struck an oil depot in the settlement of Hvardiiske in temporarily occupied Crimea on the night of 28-29 October.
  • The Hvardiiske oil depot was also attacked on the night of 16-17 October, causing a large-scale fire visible from tens of kilometres away. The fire later intensified further.
