The European Commission says that the pressure on the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) continues.

Details: The document notes that despite significant progress by Ukraine in combating corruption, certain forces within the country continue to try to undermine that fight.

In particular, the Commission pointed to the creation of a parliamentary temporary investigative commission into corruption offences, led by Serhii Vlasenko and Maksym Buzhanskyi, emphasising that such activity should not erode public trust in anti-corruption institutions.

Quote: "It is important that parliamentary oversight does not erode public trust in anti-corruption institutions through unwarranted public statements nor overstep the limitations stemming from the separation of powers."

Details: The report also mentions the criminal prosecution of NABU detectives by the Security Service of Ukraine and the State Bureau of Investigation, which the EU views as systemic in nature.

The Commission stressed that the repeal of July laws did not fully eliminate the problem, and "undue pressure on anti-corruption agencies remains a matter of concern".

However, Brussels did not classify Ukraine's actions as a rollback of reforms. The report notes that after serious international concerns, the independence of NABU and the Specialised Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) was swiftly restored, which impressed European officials, European Pravda sources said.

Moreover, the European Commission emphasised that the work of NABU and SAPO is yielding real results, and that the fight against corruption in Ukraine continues not only in form but also in practice.
