Two airports in Belgium closed after reports of drones

Air traffic at airports in Brussels and Liège was suspended on the evening of 4 November for safety reasons following reports of drones flying nearby.

Details: According to Kurt Verwilligen, spokesperson for Skeyes, the Belgian air traffic control authority, a report about a drone flying over the Brussels airport area was received shortly before 20:00.

"All air traffic was temporarily suspended for safety reasons," he said.
Initially, flights were redirected to Liège, but that airport also received reports of drones nearby. As a result, air traffic was diverted to Maastricht.
Background:
- A few days ago, Belgium launched an investigation into the appearance of several drones over a military base in the southern part of the country.
- More suspicious drones were spotted later over the Kleine-Brogel military base in the east of the country.
- Following this, it was reported that the Belgian Armed Forces had been instructed to shoot down any unidentified drones spotted over military air bases.
