Energy generation now at zero: Russia delivers heaviest strike on Ukrainian thermal power plants

A Russian attack that struck thermal power plants operated by Centrenergo, a major Ukrainian state-owned energy company, on the night of 7-8 November 2025 is reported to have been the heaviest since the start of the full-scale invasion.

Details: Less than a month has passed since the previous strike, and last night Russia hit all Centrenergo energy generation facilities simultaneously.

Quote: "We have stopped… Energy generation now is at zero. Zero! Everything we rebuilt through round-the-clock work has been wiped out. Completely!"

More details: Centrenergo said that it will repair, rebuild and integrate new energy generation capabilities.

Background:

  • On the night of 7-8 November, Russian forces attacked energy infrastructure facilities in Kyiv, Kirovohrad, Poltava, Kharkiv and Dnipropetrovsk oblasts.
  • On the same night, Russia also launched a large-scale missile and drone strike on gas infrastructure belonging to Naftogaz Group, the largest national oil and gas company of Ukraine.
