Details: On the night of 13-14 November, special forces of the SSU's Alpha unit, together with Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, the Special Operations Forces of Ukraine, the State Border Guard Service, the Navy's coastal rocket and artillery units, and other components of Ukraine's defence forces, carried out a special operation targeting the oil terminal of the Novorossiysk seaport (Krasnodar Krai, Russian Federation).
This port is a key logistics hub for exporting oil products through the Black Sea.
As a result of the attack, oil-loading jetties at the berths, pipeline infrastructure and pumping stations were damaged. A large fire continues to burn at the oil terminal.
A strike was also confirmed on the positions of an S-300/400 air defence system located at military unit 1537 in Novorossiysk. Powerful secondary detonations were recorded following the impacts.
Quote: "The SSU, together with the defence forces, continues to reduce Russia's oil-dollar revenues. Every destroyed oil refinery or terminal means millions of dollars less for the Kremlin's war machine. We will continue to deprive the aggressor of resources until it loses the ability to wage this war."
Background:
- Ukrainian UAVs struck port and oil infrastructure in Russia's Novorossiysk, damaging an oil depot, a container terminal, coastal facilities and a vessel. After the attack, the port had suspended oil exports, Reuters reports.
- In addition to Russian output, Kazakh oil also passes through Novorossiysk. The port ships more than 2 million barrels of oil per day, amounting to around 5% of global seaborne supplies.
- As of the morning of 14 November, oil prices had risen by roughly 2% amid concerns over supply after drones hit an oil storage facility in the Russian port of Novorossiysk.
