US President Donald Trump has announced that a new bill is being drafted that will introduce very severe sanctions on any country that continues to do business with Russia.

Details: Speaking to journalists, Trump confirmed that Republicans are working on legislation to increase economic pressure on Russia through its trade partners. The US president said he personally proposed the idea.

"As you know, I suggested it, so any country that does business with Russia will be very severely sanctioned," Trump said.

He added that lawmakers are considering adding Iran to the list, noting that the decision regarding Tehran may be made during the drafting process.

Background: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on 13 November that Washington has practically exhausted its potential in terms of imposing new sanctions against Russia, noting that restrictions have already been placed on the country's largest oil companies, and that the next steps are likely to focus on ensuring compliance with existing sanctions rather than introducing new ones.
