Latest searches in Ukraine: US congressman says Ukraine upholds law, in Russia people get thrown out of windows

Republican Representative Don Bacon, a critic of Donald Trump, has praised the investigative actions that Ukraine's anti-corruption agencies have taken with respect to Andrii Yermak, who has just been dismissed as head of the President's Office.

Details: Bacon was commenting on the news that searches were carried out at Yermak's office by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialised Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) on the morning of 28 November.
Quote: "Independent law enforcement and judiciary is working in Ukraine. This doesn't happen in Russia. There, you get thrown out of high-rise windows" [a reference to media reports of officials suspected of corruption in Russia falling out of windows – ed.].
Background:
- NABU and SAPO officially confirmed that they were conducting searches at Yermak's office.
- On the evening of 28 November, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the dismissal of Yermak as head of the President's Office. Zelenskyy added that he would hold consultations on Yermak's potential successor on 29 November.
- The European Commission has said it believes that the ongoing anti-corruption investigations in Ukraine, particularly searches targeting senior officials, demonstrate that Ukraine's anti-corruption agencies are functioning.
- European Pravda reported earlier that Poland has said corruption investigations in Ukraine are "bad news" from the Polish point of view, as they do not make the current peace talks any easier.
