Support for Ukraine is crucial for European security – von der Leyen

President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen has reported having a meeting with Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who arrived in Brussels, on the situation in Ukraine and frozen Russian assets.

Details: Von der Leyen noted that there was a "constructive exchange on this matter" during the meeting.

Quote: "We noted that financial support for Ukraine is of central importance for European security."

"Belgium's particular situation regarding the use of the frozen Russian assets is undeniable and must be addressed in such a way that all European states bear the same risk."

Details: Von der Leyen said that the participants had agreed to continue talks to reach a consensus at the European Council meeting on 18 December.
