Details: When asked about the prospects for his first meeting with Nawrocki, Zelenskyy replied that he would "be pleased to meet him" and that during a phone conversation he had thanked him for Poland's support, invited him to Ukraine and suggested choosing a convenient date.
"I recently heard media reports saying that he had invited me. Well, probably for me to come, I need a date. And then, if the president – officially, unofficially, however he wants – invites me and proposes a date, I will certainly pay an official visit to Poland. It is important to me," he said.
Background:
- In September and October, signals from the Ukrainian side suggested that a Zelenskyy-Nawrocki meeting was being prepared and could take place in the coming weeks, but nothing further happened.
- At the end of October, Marcin Przydacz, Head of the International Policy Bureau of the Polish President's Chancellery, said that Zelenskyy should go to Warsaw if he wanted a meeting with Nawrocki.
- In early December, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski said that Zelenskyy should request a meeting with Nawrocki.
