Zelenskyy briefs Canadian PM on ongoing talks and frontline situation

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has held a phone call with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.

Details: Zelenskyy noted that he and Carney "discussed the development of steps necessary to end the war, as well as diplomatic work with our partners".
Quote from Zelenskyy: "I briefed him on the situation in Ukraine, on the front line and on our efforts to ensure resilience. I would especially like to thank Canada for its significant contribution to the PURL initiative, which enables us to purchase American weapons to protect lives, including air defences. We will continue coordinating with Canada and the prime minister."
Details: Carney has not yet provided any details of the call.
Background:
- Earlier, Zelenskyy held talks with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in Rome.
- On 9 December, Zelenskyy also said that work is now complete on the Ukrainian and European proposals regarding the "peace plan" at the level of national security advisers and they are ready to be presented to the United States.
- Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has come out with another series of remarks about Ukraine. Among other things, he said that Ukraine needs to hold elections to remain a democracy and claimed that Russia has a better negotiating position. He also referred to Crimea as being "surrounded by ocean".
