Details: Jozwiak said that the EU will impose restrictions on nine individuals and companies that support Russia's shadow fleet, which Moscow has used to circumvent Western restrictions on its energy sector imposed since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
A further 43 ships linked to the shadow fleet are also set to be blacklisted.
The ambassadors also agreed upon sanctions against 12 individuals and two organisations believed to be destabilising the EU. These reportedly include officers of Russian military intelligence, members of the Valdai club and citizens of the US, France and Switzerland who work for Russia.
Background:
- French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot said earlier that the EU expects to finalise the 20th package of sanctions against Russia by the end of 2025.
- The Financial Times has reported recently that the EU is racing to adopt special legislation on blocking Russian assets.
