Dutch PM says sources for reparations to Ukraine will be sought after war

Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof considers it normal for the funding of a reparations fund to remain undefined while the active phase of the Russo-Ukrainian war continues.

Quote: "I think it's quite normal that talks about reparation are being held after the war. But first we have to make sure that we get a ceasefire and a just and lasting peace. And then it's quite normal to talk about reparation loans and about restoring the country."

Details: Schoof nevertheless acknowledged that certain discussions on this issue are already under way at the EU level. "That's also part of the discussion we have in the EU when it comes to the so-called frozen assets," he said.

The prime minister also stated that the Dutch government supports the European Commission's proposal – which, in one of its versions, includes directing part of the frozen assets towards reparations – but added that it is currently too early to say in what form a decision will be adopted.
