The UK is also providing longer-term support by buying over 20 remotely guided counter-drone turrets, acquired from Estonia, due to be delivered in 2026.

Quote: "These new systems, designed specifically to defeat Shahed-style attack drones at scale and at lower cost, form a crucial part of Ukraine's future defensive capabilities."

More details: The UK has also announced that it is handing over five RAVEN air defence systems, first unveiled in summer, and will continue delivering GRAVEHAWK air defence systems.

Background:

  • UK Defence Secretary John Healey has announced that the UK is investing £600 million (over US$800 million) – the largest single-year investment – to boost Ukraine's air defence. He made the announcement at the opening of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group meeting (also known as the Ramstein format).
  • On 11 September, Ukraine and the UK signed an agreement on the production of Ukrainian interceptor drones.
  • The UK Ministry of Defence had previously announced that the first joint project would be a new advanced air defence interceptor drone called Project Octopus.
