Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi has responded to remarks by Serbian Information Minister Boris Bratina, who suggested that Ukrainians had paid – or would pay – with territory for their alleged "crimes".

Details: In an interview with the Serbian TV channel Informer, Bratina claimed that Croatia should in some way be punished for its terrible role in World War I and especially World War II, and particularly since the early 1990s.

In this context, he added that Croats, like Ukrainians, should pay for this with territory, without specifying what exactly he meant with regard to Ukraine.

Commenting on the statement, Tykhyi said: "To Serbia's Minister of Information, Boris Bratina, who stated that Croats must pay for crimes with territory just like Ukrainians, we propose that he use his own country's territory for his unwise verbal exercises. As the Ukrainian proverb goes, a fly won't enter a closed mouth."

Background:

  • In October, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry identified a number of foreign media outlets that had taken part in a propaganda press tour of Ukrainian territories temporarily occupied by Russia.
  • On 29 September, Tykhyi warned of far-reaching implications for the reputations of media outlets that participated in such propaganda tours to Russian-occupied Ukrainian territories.
