Zelenskyy hails first talks with Polish counterpart as "very positive"

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has described his first bilateral meeting with his Polish counterpart Karol Nawrocki as "good", saying that it has laid the groundwork for building trust.

Details: Zelenskyy said the frequency of engagements with Poland's new president is not the main focus at this stage, as this was only their first conversation.

"But I believe this is a very positive signal. Undoubtedly, the intensity of relations with Poland is important for us. We are friendly neighbours. But the main thing, in my view, is the quality [of the relations] and mutual understanding. I believe we have taken that first step with the president, the new president of Poland – we have done it," he added.

Zelenskyy said his conversation with Nawrocki was "good, substantive, frank and open".

"That's the most important thing, in my view. Everything ultimately rests on trust. I believe that this journey has begun," Zelenskyy added.

Zelenskyy also noted that during his visit to Warsaw, he met with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and the speakers of both chambers of the Polish parliament.
