Details: On Saturday 20 December, the Swedish government announced that it has approved a new agreement with the EU to provide Ukraine with additional budgetary support amounting to SEK 2 billion in 2026 through the Ukraine Facility.
"Grateful to Sweden for today's announcement of the $200 million in direct budgetary support for Ukraine in 2026," he said.
Sybiha added that the funds will be used to meet people's everyday needs in wartime conditions, including critical public utilities, energy supply, healthcare, schools, pensions and other social payments.
"Sweden has been leading by example since the very beginning. In August, it became the first country to provide US$75 million in such direct budgetary support – and today it reinforces that leadership with an additional contribution," Sybiha tweeted.
Background:
- In early December, the Swedish government announced a new package of civilian assistance for Ukraine worth more than SEK 1.1 billion (€100 million) to address the country's most urgent recovery needs and strengthen its resilience.
- It was also reported that Sweden plans to phase out assistance to five countries in the coming years and redirect these funds to increase support for Ukraine.
