Details: The project involved embassy staff as well as professional Ukrainian musicians from the Open Opera Ukraine project and the National House of Music. The video was filmed at the Zoloti Vorota metro station in Kyiv.
Quote from the German Embassy: "The voices of the Embassies of Germany, France and the United Kingdom together with Ukrainian artists intertwined into Shchedryk as a sign of support and solidarity with Ukrainians.
For more than a century, legendary Shchedryk, or Carol of the Bells, composed by Ukrainian Mykola Leontovych has been ringing around the world as a symbol of Christmas. Premiered in 1919, this flowing polyphony won the hearts in Europe and America, opening Ukraine, an independent nation with its own voice, to the world. And so it does even today."
Background:
- Earlier, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier mentioned Ukraine in his Christmas address.
- Pope Leo said he felt great sadness over Russia's refusal to agree to a Christmas ceasefire in the war against Ukraine, which has now lasted for almost four years.
