Explosions hit Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery in Russia

Residents in the city of Novoshakhtinsk in Russia's Rostov Oblast have reported a large number of explosions and a fire at the local oil products plant. The oblast governor has confirmed the explosions have been caused by an air attack.

Novoshakhtinsk Oil Products Plant (JSC NZNP) is a major oil refining enterprise in Russia's Rostov Oblast. The plant specialises in processing crude oil and producing petroleum products including fuel oil, heating oil, marine and diesel fuel, straight-run petrol and others. It is one of the largest suppliers of petroleum products in southern Russia.

Background: General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has reported that Ukrainian forces struck the Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery in Russia's Rostov Oblast on the night of 20-21 August.
