Ireland assesses security response after drone incident during Zelenskyy's visit

Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin has said he does not consider the drone incident detected near Dublin shortly after Volodymyr Zelenskyy's arrival in early December to be a failure of the country's security services, stressing that they carried out a successful operation to ensure the Ukrainian president's safety.

Quote: "I think that this is getting lost and there's a lot of noise around security issues all the time and there is always an attempt to portray Ireland as a sort of a basket case.
I think our intelligence service works well, has very good relationships across the world and is very useful in certain scenarios."
Background:
- It was earlier reported that four unidentified drones had flown towards the flight path of the aircraft carrying Zelenskyy as it was landing at Dublin airport.
- These same drones also spied on the Irish naval vessel LÉ William Butler Yeats, which had been secretly deployed near Dublin.
- In Ireland, law enforcement has launched an official investigation into the incident with unidentified drones on the night of Zelenskyy's arrival in the country.
- On 10 December, Martin said that the drones did not pose a threat to Zelenskyy's aircraft.
