Rescue operations in Kyiv last almost full day after Russian attack

Emergency workers had completed work to deal with the aftermath of the previous day's Russian attack on the city of Kyiv by the morning of 28 December.

Details: The number of casualties remains unchanged following the large-scale strike: one person was killed and 32 people were injured, including two children.
State Emergency Service units cleared debris, dismantled unstable structures and inspected damaged buildings.
During the night, tents equipped with blow heaters were deployed at the affected sites to keep residents of damaged buildings warm.
More than 400 emergency workers and 90 emergency vehicles were involved in the response.

Background:
- On the night of 26-27 December, Russian forces carried out a large-scale attack on Ukraine, using nearly 500 drones and 40 missiles, including Kinzhal missiles. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Kyiv was the main target, including its energy system and civilian infrastructure.
- It was previously reported that one person had been killed in the capital and one in Kyiv Oblast.
- On the morning of 27 December, weapons debris struck a 24-storey building and an 18-storey and a 10-storey building were on fire in the Darnytskyi district of Kyiv.
- As a result of the attack on Kyiv, one of the buildings of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine was damaged, as well as student accommodation at the state-owned Kyiv Aviation Institute (formerly the National Aviation University).
