A drone attack on Moscow on the evening of 27 December has paralysed operations at several airports in the Russian capital.

Details: Around 290 flights were delayed in total at Vnukovo and Sheremetyevo airports, while more than 80 planes were diverted to alternate airfields.

Restrictions under the Kovyor (Carpet) plan were in place until midnight and waiting areas were overcrowded. [A Kovyor plan is an airport operational safety procedure for airport services and personnel when an unidentified object appears in the sky – ed.]

Aeroflot, Pobeda, Rossiya and Nordwind air companies announced schedule adjustments.

On the morning of 28 December, Aeroflot said that some of the aircraft diverted the previous day had not yet returned to Moscow, so further departure rescheduling was possible.
