Trump says conversation with Putin was "good and very productive"

US President Donald Trump has said he held a "good and very productive" conversation with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin on Sunday.

Quote: "I just had a good and very productive telephone call with President Putin of Russia prior to my meeting, at 13:00 [Washington time – ed.] today, with President Zelenskyy of Ukraine." [N.B. Ukrainska Pravda does not recognise Putin as president – ed.]

Details: Trump also added that members of the press have been invited to his meeting with Zelenskyy.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has confirmed to Russian news agency TASS that the call between Putin and Trump took place.

Background:

• On the night of 27-28 December, the Ukrainian delegation arrived in the US to take part in the meeting between Zelenskyy and Trump. The meeting is scheduled for 20:00 Kyiv time.
• The day before, Zelenskyy spoke about five thematic areas discussed in the negotiations on the "peace plan" that he wants to raise at the meeting with the US president.
• He also believes that Washington now has a better understanding of Ukraine's "red lines" on the parameters for ending the war.
