Details: According to Ushakov, the conversation was "friendly, cordial and businesslike".
Putin agreed with Trump's suggestion that work on the settlement should continue within two specially created working groups – on security and the economy.
The US and Russian leaders also agreed to speak again after Trump's meeting with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Ushakov said the conversation also touched on the fact that a "political decision" from Kyiv concerning Donbas is needed for a final cessation of hostilities.
Putin presented Trump with "arguments" about the fundamental importance of continuing to be guided by the understandings reached in Anchorage during bilateral contact, the aide said.
Ushakov claimed that Putin and Trump agree that a temporary ceasefire "under the pretext of a referendum" would only drag out the conflict.
Background: Trump said on Sunday that he had a "good and very productive" conversation with Putin ahead of his meeting with Zelenskyy.
