Quote from Zelenskyy: "Yes, I believe that the presence of international troops would be real security guarantees. It would strengthen the security guarantees that our partners are already offering us, and it would provide confidence to Ukrainian citizens – first and foremost civilians and the military – as well as confidence to businesses, both Ukrainian and international, and to investors, that [Russian leader Vladimir] Putin will not come again with aggression against a peaceful Ukraine."
Background:
- On 28 December, Zelenskyy and Trump met in the United States. Following the meeting, the two presidents held a video conference with European leaders.
- At a press conference after the meeting, Trump and Zelenskyy said they had failed to resolve the issue of Donbas.
- Meanwhile, the Ukrainian president noted that the twenty-point plan was 90% agreed, US security guarantees were agreed 100%, joint US and EU security guarantees for Ukraine were almost agreed, and the military dimension of these guarantees had been agreed in full.
