Oleksandr Syrskyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, has stated that the primary task of the Ukrainian army at this stage is to develop and strengthen the interceptor UAV direction in order to counter Russia's large-scale attacks.

Details: He said that Russia has not abandoned its intentions to seize Ukrainian territory and continues large-scale air attacks, trying to plunge Ukrainian cities and villages into blackouts. In this regard, the Armed Forces of Ukraine must continue to destroy the means of air attack that Russia uses every day and every night.

Syrskyi emphasised that the priority is to increase the number of interceptor UAVs, ground stations and radar assets, as well as to expand the volume and quality of crew training.

Quote: "Our key task at this stage is to strengthen the interceptor UAV direction, increase the number of relevant drones, ground stations and radars, and scale up the volume and quality of crew training.

This project has been implemented for a long time and has my full support. Interception lines are being created at a certain distance from large cities within the echeloned system. The number of applications of interceptor UAVs and their effectiveness are gradually increasing. Meanwhile, I emphasised the need to intensify this work, speed up the procurement of relevant weapons and equipment, and strengthen the manning of the relevant units."

Details: In addition, he said that the Armed Forces of Ukraine continue forming separate air-defence divisions of unmanned systems and are creating regular interceptor UAV units in training centres. Resources of the army and light aviation are also being used to counter Shahed drones, including with the support of international partners.

Syrskyi noted that the Russians actively use weather conditions, modernise attack drones and change tactics, in particular, attacking at ultra-low altitudes. In response, Ukraine adapts its countermeasures and changes the air defence system to achieve the required results.

Background: In September, Syrskyi emphasised the creation of new technologies and tactics for the use of unmanned systems, as Russia copies successful Ukrainian technologies and extends the strike range of its drones.
