Russia claims to have destroyed 66 drones overnight

The Russian Defence Ministry has claimed that its air defence systems destroyed 66 drones on the night of 1-2 January.

Details: The Russian ministry said that 20 drones had been downed over Samara Oblast, 8 over Voronezh Oblast and 8 over Saratov Oblast.

Seven drones were intercepted over Moscow Oblast, including five heading towards Moscow itself. A further six drones were downed over Ryazan Oblast, six over Rostov Oblast and three over Tula Oblast.

In addition, the Russians reported that they had intercepted two drones over Belgorod Oblast, one over Kursk Oblast, one over Kaluga Oblast, one over Penza Oblast and one over Tambov Oblast.

Background: According to Russian Telegram channels, drones attacked Samara Oblast on the night of 1-2 January. Oil refineries may have been among the potential targets.
