Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has accepted an invitation to attend the ceremonial launch of Cyprus's presidency of the Council of the European Union ( 1 January – 30 June 2026), which is set to take place on 7 January in the Cypriot capital, Nicosia.

"President Zelenskyy is expected in Nicosia on 7 January for the opening ceremony of our presidency", a source told European Pravda.

The source said that President Zelenskyy spoke with Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides on 1 January, the day the Republic of Cyprus began its presidency of the Council of the EU.

After the call, the Cyprus' president said that the Ukrainian president "will attend the opening ceremony of Cyprus's presidency of the Council of the EU in 2026, which will take place in Nicosia on 7 January".
