Details: The president's remarks complemented the official response from Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which made no objection to the US's special operation in Venezuela and reiterated the illegitimacy of the Venezuelan regime.
Quote from Zelenskyy: "Well, what can I say. If dictators can be dealt with in this way, then the United States of America knows what it should do next."
Details: Zelenskyy refrained from directly mentioning Russia or its illegitimate leader Vladimir Putin, but the context of his remark made it clear that he was referring to him.
Background:
- Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, commenting on the US operation in Venezuela, recalled the illegitimacy of Nicolás Maduro's presidency.
- On Saturday 3 January, the elite Delta Force, which has carried out similar missions in the past, captured Venezuela's leader Nicolás Maduro and removed him from the country.
- US President Donald Trump has since released a photograph of the captured Maduro.
