President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that the United States could, as in the case of the capture of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro, carry out a military operation targeting Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov to pressure Russian leader Vladimir Putin into ending the Russo-Ukrainian war.

Quote: "Americans, in my view, are productive. We have good results, but all of this has not yet been fully pushed through. They must put pressure on Russia. They have the tools, they know how to do it. And when they really want to, they can find ways. The most important part is that Ukraine becomes a priority for them."

Details: Zelenskyy said it is necessary to find tools to pressure Russia to end the war. "We have Maduro as an example. They carried out an operation. Everyone saw the result, the whole world. They did it quickly. So let them carry out some operation against Kadyrov, this murderer. Maybe Putin will see that and stop to think," the president said.

Background:

  • On 3 January, the US Army's Delta Force, an elite special forces unit, captured Maduro and took him out of the country.
  • After that, Zelenskyy said that in Venezuela, the United States has provided a textbook example of how to deal with dictators and "knows what to do next".
  • He also said that representatives of US leader Donald Trump are holding talks with the Russians on a ceasefire along the front line, but the Putin regime is "dragging its feet".
