Ukrainian documentary 2,000 Meters to Andriivka longlisted for BAFTA Film Awards 2026

Mstyslav Chernov's documentary 2,000 Meters to Andriivka has been included in the longlist for the BAFTA Film Awards 2026, just a day after it was nominated for a Directors Guild of America Award. The awards ceremony will be held in London on 22 February and hosted by Scottish actor Alan Cumming.

Details: 2,000 Meters to Andriivka has been nominated in the Documentary category.
The film focuses on Andriivka, a small village about 10 km from Bakhmut in Ukraine's east. Together with Ukrainian photojournalist and cinematographer Oleksandr Babenko and the 3rd Assault Brigade, Chernov moves along the line of contact, documenting the Ukrainian defenders' attempt to liberate Andriivka from Russian occupation.

The shortlist will be announced on 27 January.

- In 2024, Chernov's documentary 20 Days in Mariupol won the BAFTA for Best Documentary.
- Often described as the British equivalent of the Oscars, the BAFTA Awards ceremony is considered the penultimate major event of the film awards season.
- In 2025, the overall winner was Conclave, a thriller by Edward Berger set in the Vatican, which received 12 nominations and won four awards, including Best Film. The award for Best British Short Film went to Rock, Paper, Scissors, starring Ukrainian actor Oleksandr Rudynskyi.
