Background:

  • The Russian attack on residential buildings and civilian infrastructure in Kyiv and other cities on the night of 8-9 January went on for almost five hours. More than 240 drones and 36 missiles were deployed. In the capital, four people were killed and 25 injured. Our sincere condolences go out to the families.
  • The damage done to substations, power lines and generation facilities have caused disruptions to electricity and water supplies in some districts of Kyiv. Work is ongoing to restore power to more than 500,000 consumers. Emergency and rolling outages are being applied, complicated by the recent plunge in temperatures.
  • On this occasion the Russians deliberately targeted district boiler houses.
