Ratel, a Ukrainian manufacturer of ground robotic systems, has begun installing Ukrainian-made engines in its combat and logistics robots. This is expected to enable the eventual phase-out of Chinese components in ground robotic systems.

Details: Ostapchuk posted a photo on Facebook of the first locally produced engine for ground robotic systems in Ukraine.

Quote: "There will be even fewer Chinese components in our robots. We have started testing engines made in Ukraine. Controllers for them are next."

More details: Ostapchuk told Ukrainska Pravda that the robot engine, developed by a Ukrainian company, is expected to be ready soon for installation on mass-produced models.

He said Ratel is also developing its own engine, which is scheduled for trials in two months, and plans to develop a controller for it.

Ratel M/H/X models are currently 80% made up of Ukrainian and European components. Producing the engine and controller domestically is expected to reduce the share of Chinese parts to 5%, with the company aiming to phase them out completely by 2026.

Ratel has also recently integrated a Ukrainian-developed autopilot for frontline missions across its robot line, while the carcass and key components have been protected with Ukrainian-made armour plates.

Ukrainska Pravda has long followed the push to localise imported components in Ukrainian drones and ground robots. Many parts are still sourced from China, bringing logistical vulnerabilities and political risk.
