Details: At the meeting on Saturday 10 January, Pellegrini, Fico and Raši discussed key issues relating to Slovakia's interests at home and abroad.
According to Pellegrini, the meeting confirmed that the three highest constitutional officials are able to discuss all issues in a very open, constructive and pragmatic manner.
He said the politicians agreed that Slovakia should have a representative at the talks of the Coalition of the Willing on Ukraine, while Slovakia's position remains unchanged: the country will not continue to provide military support to Ukraine, will not send any soldiers, and will not take part in the EU's loan guarantees amounting to €90 billion.
Background:
- Recently, Robert Fico criticised the meeting of the Coalition of the Willing in Paris but said he could envisage Slovakia taking part in monitoring a peace agreement if one were reached.
- Members of the Coalition of the Willing, Ukraine and the US have signed a joint declaration on security guarantees for a stable and lasting peace in Ukraine.
- The Coalition of the Willing has also decided to establish a special coordination centre in Paris, operating in a US–Ukraine–Coalition of the Willing format, which will be responsible for providing security guarantees to Ukraine from its Western allies.
