According to Pellegrini, the meeting confirmed that the three highest constitutional officials are able to discuss all issues in a very open, constructive and pragmatic manner.

He said the politicians agreed that Slovakia should have a representative at the talks of the Coalition of the Willing on Ukraine, while Slovakia's position remains unchanged: the country will not continue to provide military support to Ukraine, will not send any soldiers, and will not take part in the EU's loan guarantees amounting to €90 billion.

Background:

  • Recently, Robert Fico criticised the meeting of the Coalition of the Willing in Paris but said he could envisage Slovakia taking part in monitoring a peace agreement if one were reached.
  • Members of the Coalition of the Willing, Ukraine and the US have signed a joint declaration on security guarantees for a stable and lasting peace in Ukraine.
  • The Coalition of the Willing has also decided to establish a special coordination centre in Paris, operating in a US–Ukraine–Coalition of the Willing format, which will be responsible for providing security guarantees to Ukraine from its Western allies.
