Russian propagandist demands new "special military operations" in Armenia and Asia

Vladimir Solovyov, a prominent Russian propagandist, has said on one of his broadcasts that Russia should think about its "sphere of influence" and the possibility of carrying out new "special military operations" (SMOs) in Armenia and Central Asia. Moscow uses the term SMO to refer to its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Details: Solovyov said he believes Russia should take an example from US actions in Venezuela, which he said have "spat on international law".
Quote: "For us, what is happening in Armenia is far more painful than what is happening in Venezuela. Losing Armenia is a gigantic problem. Problems in our Asia, in Central Asia – this is what could be a gigantic problem for us. And we must very clearly formulate our goals and objectives… Who cares about international law and international order? If, for our national security, it was necessary for us to start an SMO in Ukraine, then why, based on the same considerations, can we not start an SMO in other points of our sphere of influence?"
More details: Armenia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs reacted to this remark by handing the Russian ambassador a note of protest, "which expresses deep indignation at the comments made on air in a programme of a state TV channel".
Armenia emphasised that such remarks are incompatible with friendly relations between Moscow and Yerevan.
Background:
- The foreign ministries of Armenia and Azerbaijan released the full text of a peace agreement on 11 August, which was signed on 8 August 2025 with US mediation.
- On 8 August, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed at the White House, in the presence of US President Donald Trump, an agreement that includes the creation of a transit corridor that will be called the "Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity".
