Zelenskyy urges world to help Iranian people overthrow Ayatollah's regime

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has commented on the widespread protests in Iran, urging world leaders not to miss the moment and to support the Iranian people in changing their government.

• Since late December 2025, Iran has been gripped by mass protests that began over an economic crisis and escalated into an anti-government uprising. According to human rights groups, more than 500 people have been killed and over 10,000 arrested.
• Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei stated that the Islamist regime will not back down and intensified brutal crackdowns on civilians.
• On 10 January, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha called on the international community to increase pressure on Iran over its violence against its own people and support for Russia's war against Ukraine.
• On 11 January, US President Donald Trump publicly warned Iran that the US will intervene and support protesters in gaining freedom if the regime uses deadly force against demonstrators.
• The exiled Iranian crown prince, Reza Pahlavi, has called on the population to launch a new phase of the national uprising with the goal of overthrowing the Islamic Republic regime.
