The Norwegian Ministry of Defence noted that air defence remains a priority of Norway's military support for Ukraine.

NASAMS air defence systems received by Ukraine from a number of countries, including the United States, Canada, Lithuania and Norway, have proved highly effective against Russian missiles.

"Through cooperation with the United States and others, Norway has quickly delivered air defence missiles to Ukraine at a critical stage so that the NASAMS system can continue to protect Ukrainian citizens from deadly airstrikes," Tore O. Sandvik said.

Background:

  • Recently, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he was concerned that a deepening confrontation between the United States and European countries could undermine Ukraine's air defence capabilities.
  • Earlier, European Pravda explained that the dispute over Greenland could have negative consequences for Ukraine's Armed Forces, primarily due to the possible suspension of European contributions to the PURL programme, which enables US weapons to be procured for Ukraine.
