EU allocates first €10m for special tribunal to hold Russia's leadership to account

The European Union has allocated the first €10 million towards the work of a special tribunal for the crime of Russia's aggression against Ukraine, which is being created under the aegis of the Council of Europe.

Details: Kallas reported that the first financial contribution has been made towards the work of the special tribunal for the crime of Russian aggression and the relevant agreement has been signed with the Council of Europe.
Quote: "Today, the EU provided the first €10 million for a new Special Tribunal to prosecute Russian leaders for their role in Moscow's war against Ukraine.
Russia's leaders are responsible for this war, and they must be held accountable. There can be no impunity."
Background:
- At his address in Davos earlier today, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy criticised the slow pace of efforts to bring Russia's ruler Vladimir Putin to account for the war against Ukraine.
- The agreement establishing the special tribunal was signed in June 2025.
