Kremlin talks between Putin and Trump's envoy Witkoff begin – video

Talks between Russian leader Vladimir Putin and US President Donad Trump's Special Envoy Steve Witkoff began at the Kremlin on the evening of 22 January.

Details: The Russian delegation includes Putin's aide Yuri Ushakov and Kirill Dmitriev, Special Envoy for Investment and Economic Cooperation with Foreign Countries.

The US side is represented by White House envoys Jared Kushner and Josh Gruenbaum.

Background:

• Axios previously reported that Witkoff and Kushner would travel to Moscow for a meeting with Putin.
• The meeting is expected to focus on discussing a US "peace plan" aimed at ending the war in Ukraine
• Trump described his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Davos as "very good".
