Energy-focused Ukraine Defence Contact Group meeting, government outlines support to be provided to country

Details: Kuleba said the US will provide over US$400 million, Germany €60 million, the UK and the Netherlands €23 million each and Italy €10 million, with an additional €50 million planned in the 2026 budget.
Kuleba added that Ukraine expects support from partners to expand decentralised power generation for heating and water, to stock the National Reserve of mobile energy equipment, to establish a "bank" of critical equipment and to strengthen the physical protection of energy infrastructure.
"By helping Ukraine get through this winter, our partners are not only protecting the Ukrainian people but also investing in the stability and security of all Europe," he emphasised.
Background:
- In recent days, several countries announced additional energy assistance for Ukraine due to the worsening situation following the latest Russian strikes.
- Generators purchased through a public fundraising campaign in Poland, amounting to PLN 5 million (about US$1.4 million), are being sent to Ukraine, along with around 400 generators and heaters from the state reserve.
- During his speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that it is "cheaper" to prevent Russia from producing missiles than to rescue Ukraine's energy system after their impact.
