Ukraine's top tennis player Elina Svitolina has beaten Russia's Mirra Andreeva in the round of 16 to reach the Australian Open quarter-finals in Melbourne on 25 January.

The players met for the second time and Svitolina levelled the head-to-head to 1:1. In the quarter-finals, she will play world's third ranked tennis player Coco Gauff (US).

Elina, a 31-year-old native of Odesa, has reached the Australian Open quarter-finals for the fourth time (2018, 2019, 2025 and 2026). Overall, Svitolina has reached Grand Slam quarter-finals 14 times.

Since the start of the 2026 season, Svitolina has remained unbeaten, winning nine matches in a row and taking the title in Auckland.

Svitolina was the only Ukrainian player to make it past the first round of the Australian Open women's singles, beating Spain's Cristina Bucsa (No. 51). In the second round she defeated Poland's Linda Klimovicova (No. 134). In the third round, Svitolina beat Russia's Diana Shnaider (No. 22).
