Emergency worker dies in Kyiv after being injured in Russian strike on 9 January

Oleksandr Zibrov, a 36-year-old firefighter and emergency worker who was caught in a Russian double-tap strike in Kyiv on 9 January, has died.

Details: "Another hard day for the SES family. Sadly, after 18 days of fighting for his life, our colleague – firefighter and emergency worker from the 24th State Fire and Rescue Unit, 36-year-old Oleksandr Zibrov – has died. He, along with his brothers-in-arms, was caught in a Russian double-tap strike on 9 January in the Darnytskyi district of Kyiv," Andrii Danyk, Head of the State Emergency Service, said.

Danyk said Zibrov was a brave and courageous firefighter, a loving husband and a caring father.

He sustained severe injuries while rescuing people after the Russian attack.

Background:

• Explosions were heard in Kyiv on the evening of 8 January as Russia attacked the capital with drones. Four people were killed in the Russian strikes.
• Russian forces carried out a double-tap strike overnight on 9 January on damaged buildings, as a result of which, the mayor of the capital said, one medic was killed and four others were injured while providing assistance to people in the Darnytskyi district of Kyiv.
