Details: Zelenskyy said the meetings in Abu Dhabi mark the first trilateral dialogue in a long time aimed at ending the war.
Quote: "The meetings covered a range of important issues – primarily military, essential to bringing the war to an end. Complex political matters that remain unresolved were also discussed. The key positions of all parties were analysed."
More details: Zelenskyy said he has set the framework for further diplomatic work.
He added that preparations for new trilateral meetings this week are also ongoing.
Background:
- Trilateral talks between the US, Ukraine and Russia took place in Abu Dhabi on 23-24 January.
- US digital news outlet Axios reported earlier that after the meetings, the sides had agreed to continue consultations on 1 February.
- Territory is one of the core issues on the table. Ukraine insists that any discussion on territory should start from the current line of contact, while Russia continues to demand the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the unoccupied part of Donetsk Oblast.
