Five people killed and others injured in Russian strike on train in Kharkiv Oblast – photos, video

Five people have been killed and several injured in a Russian attack on a passenger train on the Chоп – Kharkiv – Barvinkove route in Kharkiv Oblast.

Quote: "The investigation has established that Russian forces attacked a passenger train on the Chop-Kharkiv-Barvinkove route on 27 January, near the village of Yazykove in the Barvinkove hromada of the Izium district. Two hits have been recorded near the train and a third strike has hit a carriage, sparking a fire."


Details: The prosecutor's office said that more than 155 passengers were on board.
Three people have been confirmed dead. A man and a woman have also sought medical help.


The prosecutor's office reports that Russia used three attack drones in the strike, likely of the Geran-2 type.
Update: Zelenskyy wrote that 18 people had been in the carriage hit by one of the Russian drones.
Overall, four people are reported to have been killed in the strike conducted by three drones.
Rescue workers are searching for four more people. Two are reported to have been injured.
Update: The prosecutor's office reported that the remains of five bodies had been recovered. Their identification will only be possible after DNA tests have been carried out.
Background: Earlier on 27 January, the Russians struck a passenger train in Kharkiv Oblast; passengers were evacuated by replacement buses.
