Kyiv receives first batch of generators pledged by Poland

The first batch of generators sent by the Polish government to support Kyiv and the surrounding hromadas has arrived in the city. [A hromada is an administrative unit designating a village, several villages, or a town, and their adjacent territories – ed.]

Details: Piotr Łukasiewicz, Poland's chargé d'affaires in Ukraine, officially handed the equipment over to Oleksii Kuleba, Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister, and Mykola Kalashnyk, Head of Kyiv Oblast Military Administration, on Thursday 29 January.

"Thanks to the prompt decisions of Prime Minister Donald Tusk and [Interior] Minister Marcin Kierwiński, this urgently needed equipment for Kyiv residents and the surrounding region is arriving on time," the embassy said. "Where there is need, there is Polish solidarity."

Background:

• Łukasiewicz announced earlier that his country was donating 400 generators to Kyiv and the surrounding hromadas.
• On 23 January, it was reported that Poland will supply Ukraine with 379 electricity generators and 18 heaters from the Government Agency for Strategic Reserves, following a decision by Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
