EU considering entry ban for Russian war participants, says EU chief diplomat
EU chief diplomat Kaja Kallas has said the European Union will continue to consider Estonia's idea of banning entry to the Schengen Area for anyone who has taken part in Russia's war against Ukraine while serving in the Russian armed forces, with many countries supporting the proposal.

Details: After a meeting of the EU Council, Kallas said that "many member states" had expressed support for Estonia's proposal, without specifying which ones.
"It poses a clear security risk to Europe," Kallas said. "We agreed to take this proposal further and test the appetite of the member states," Kallas said.
Kallas added that the issue could become particularly acute once the current "hot phase" of the war ends and that the EU should "have answers" by then.
Background:
- On 29 January, it first emerged unofficially that Estonia was putting forward a proposal for EU member states to consider banning entry to the Schengen Area for participants in hostilities against Ukraine while serving in the Russian armed forces.
- Estonia's Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna has stressed that people with such experience are at high risk of being recruited by Russian special services and pose a range of security threats.
